HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati gave a keynote address on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the United Nations Expert Group Meeting on the “Integrating Sport into Youth Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Strategies.”
Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita attended the opening ceremony of the United Nations Expert Group -Meeting on the “Integrating Sport into Youth Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Strategies” at the Grand Hall 1-2, The Athenee Hotel, A Luxury Collection Hotel.
In this regards, HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita delivered a keynote address,
“Various evidence recognizes the role of sport as a useful intervention tool to address challenges of youth crime. Sport not only fulfils children’s right to development, leisure and play, but it can also play a significant role in boosting the development of cognitive and behavioral processes in children and youth. We here in Thailand certainly subscribes to this belief.”
“The effort to integrate sport as a tool for youth crime prevention and criminal justice strategies aims to benefit children at large, including those at-risk youth or vulnerable children who are in need of special care. Therefore, we must stress the importance of preventing the involvement of children and youth in criminal activities, supporting their development, reducing their anti-social and delinquent behavior, and supporting their rehabilitation and reintegration to the society through sport,”

HRH Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati Kromluangrajasarinisiribajra Mahavajrarajadhita and high level executives; Somsak Thepsutin, the Minister of Justice, Thailand, Prof. Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, Executive Director of the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), KhunyingPatama Leeswadtrakul, Board Member of the International Olympics Committee (IOC), Johannes De Haan, Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Officer, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria, Sahakarn Petchnarin, Director-General, the Department of Juvenile Observation and Protection, and Ekaphop Detkriangkraisorn, President of the BBG (Bounce Be Good) Sports Club, then proceeded to visit an exhibition presenting the achievement of the Bounce Be Good Club which established under her patronage in 2016 to help advance skills of juvenile offenders and rebuild their lives. The BBG Club has shown satisfying results in empowering at-risk youth through sports activities.
The United Nations Expert Group Meeting on the “Integrating Sport into Youth Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Strategies” between 16-18 December 2019 hosted by TIJ and UNODC aims to provide examples and discussion on measures and good-practices in different countries in the context of crime prevention and criminal justice. Results and recommendations from the meeting will be provided for Governments to effectively integrate sport into their crime prevention and criminal justice strategies at national and global levels.
