Many ASEAN Member States have emphasised that criminal justice systems are facing unprecedented challenges in the post-Covid-19 environment, particularly on the issues of cybercrime, international cooperation, and justice reform. Cybercrime has become a method of choice by organized crime groups, which have utilized an increasingly sophisticated approach to exploit loopholes and jurisdictions. Thus, it is essential to strengthen international and regional cooperation in criminal matters. Moreover, it is ever-pressing for justice systems to adopt an innovative and technological approach in the 'new normal' era.
To explore all the existing and new resolutions on the issues above and other related topics, the Third ASEAN Conference on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (the 3rd ACCPCJ) will be organised on 22 – 24 August 2022 in Bangkok, Thailand. The main theme of the conference is “Responding to Crime and Justice Challenges amidst ASEAN Recovery from the Covid-19 Crisis”.
The three-day conference consists of panel discussions, breakout sessions, and special presentations, including the 3rd TIJ Youth Forum on the topic of “Future of Justice in the Digital World,” to engage more ASEAN youth, not limited to law and criminal justice students, to help organize the forum and reflect on challenges facing the law and justice sector in the Metaverse era.
