The Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ), in collaboration with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), is hosting the Training on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice for Southeast Asia (T4SEA). This initiative aims at equipping ASEAN justice personnel with United Nations standards and norms, as well as international best practices. The training provides participants with opportunities to exchange innovative and practical knowledge in managing the justice system.
In his welcoming address, Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong, emphasized the importance of instilling "hope" in both the public to access justice services and the officials’ work to deliver justice. He highlighted that the success of the T4SEA course lies in fostering hope among trainees to combat injustice, underpinning the contemporary knowledge, skills, and a modern mindset, alongside forging friendships with common visions of effective justice for all. He expressed his belief that the region's challenges are best understood by its people.
Dr. Phiset Sa-Ardyen, Executive Director of TIJ, further underscored the unique characteristics of the ASEAN region, including its historical significance, cultural richness, and diverse coexistence, nurtured by mutual respect and friendly relations. However, as the region grapples with challenges in pursuing justice amidst technological advancements and societal expectations, TIJ aspires to actively contribute to promoting equitable access to criminal justice in response to these challenges. Furthermore, we express our gratitude to UNODC and all collaborating organizations for their efforts in coordinating this training session.
From June 4th to 13th, 2024, 36 participants from 11 ASEAN countries, along with one from the World Bank, will learn about international standards and norms on crime prevention and the criminal justice system. They will engage in interactive sessions to share constructive best practices and experiences in managing issues related to crime prevention and the criminal justice system. The training takes place at the Thailand Institute of Justice (TIJ) building on Chaengwattana Road, Lak Si District, Bangkok.
